Simple when organised

Small student moves still need good access details.

Student moves are often smaller than full removals, but halls, shared houses and storage units can be time-sensitive. Room numbers, parking, lift access, loading zones and who will meet the team matter. For managed accommodation, the building access checklist and handover pack can record the lift booking, loading point and contact details.

Men With Van can help with end-of-term moves, moving into halls, shared-house changes, studio moves, storage transfers and UK student routes.

HallsRoom numbers, floor levels and loading points captured clearly.

Accommodation access

Confirm the building rules before booking a vehicle.

Every hall, shared building and storage site uses its own current procedure. Use this checklist to ask the right questions, not as permission to enter, stop or unload at a particular address.

  • Arrival or collection slotConfirm the date, time window, reception point and whether a change needs approval before the vehicle is booked.
  • Loading locationAsk where the vehicle may stop, how long unloading can take, whether there is a height limit and which entrance the team should use.
  • Building routeRecord the room, floor, lift or stairs, trolley rules, internal route and any protection requirement. A visible lift is not automatically approved for furniture.
  • Person on siteName the student, friend or authorised contact who will meet the team. Do not assume reception can store boxes, accept a collection or grant access for a third party.
  • Road rulesCheck the exact parking signs, local authority restrictions and any applicable road charges separately from the accommodation rules.

For examples of why these checks are building specific, UCL publishes arrival slots and hall level unloading information, King's College London describes a stop and drop system for its residences, and Goldsmiths says collections must be prearranged and met by a student or friend. Check the accommodation's live instructions rather than copying another building's rule.

Use the building access and service lift checklist for a written handover, the London moving day parking guide for the road authority and vehicle position, and the loading restriction guide where a street sign or red route controls the stop.
